Hi guys and girls. I was doing some gardening a few days back and sadly for me got covered in mosquito bites. The worst place was my ankle I got 13 bites in a cluster and the swelling which followed was so bad it made my whole ankle bone disappear. Lots of other bad reactions on my legs and even one on my stomach.
So when I was faced with having my count done yesterday I really did not want to go. An infection will make the platelets rise. To be running alive with infection and taking a double dose of antibiotics would certainly make it rise big time. I felt at a low ebb.
So what do I do I call up the hospital and speak to my haemos receptionist who was the epitomy of rudeness when I asked if I could postpone my appointment as I knew I would get a false reading and surely the purpose of the count was to get an accurate reading. I explained if I got a bad count it would depress me and it was important to me that I keep my morale high.
She was also equally firm and said the doctor insisted I keep my appointment since I was not too sick to attend. So I had to go. If I had called to say I was sick, had a cold headache etc I could have got an appointment when the infection ceased instead I was honest and gave my reason. the real reason.
Well on the face of it my count yesterday was not major bad 390. But for me it felt bad since my recent counts are between 280 and 300. Next appointment 3 months. I sure learned something there that when dealing with Doctors receptionists honesty is not always the best policy.
