Just lately my platelet count has been creeping up from 390 to 460 to 505 and now 535. My Haemotologist first was going to up my dose of anagrelide but then decided not to because I had just undergone surgery prior to the second count of 460. It was deemed the platelets had risen as a result of the wound being inflamed and swollen.
The count of 505 was deemed to be of the same cause as the 460 count. Then since my surgery has now fully healed my most recent count of 535 a few days ago seemed to cinch it for me to have a higher dose when I mentioned to her about my acid reflux which has recently exploded. I was asking if Zantac was compatible with my other drugs. In confirming that it was compatible she asked me how often and how bad I was getting acid reflux.
I told her I was getting pain and discomfort with almost everything I ate or drank. I was taking Gaviscon Advance but that only treated the immediate symptom and gave no protective cover the way Zantac does. She told me to take the Zantac twice a day until the next blood test in 4 weeks time. That acid reflux does have a significant effect on platelets. To me it seemed a very unassociated symptom and I was surprised that it should have an effect on the platelets. Since it does I wonder just how many other conditions will push platelets up and just how seemingly insignificant they might be. Could simple things like a headache or a cold push up platelets its all very mysterious.
By the way Happy Christmas to you all and best wishes to a healthy new year.
