I don't have ET, I have something called Auto-immune Haemalytic Anaemia (AIHA) which results in very low Haemaglobin. Anyway, after a splenectomy in March 03, my platelet levels rose to very high levels and I suffered a blood clot in my portal vein and a few weeks later in my leg. Great fun! Apparently high platelets are expected after removal of the spleen and should settle down after a few months, however my platelet count is all over the place. Highest was abou 1850 and lowest was 730 but is now hovering around the 1400 mark and there doesn't seem to be any real explanation! I am on Warfarin and Asprin to avoid clots. ANYWAY... the point of this message is that I was having a little look on the internet and found this piece of research and wondered what your thoughts are on this... www.blackwellpublishing.c...?id=10185. The conclusion ("Dark chocolate acutely reduces platelet activity, and has potential to reduce CVD and thromboembolic disease") is not clear whether it reduces the Platelet count, or the 'stickiness' of them. I wonder how much choccie you would need to consume on a regular basis to keep your Platelets in spec. If I were a Dark Chocolate lover I might be tempted to give it a go - Unfortunately, I can't stand the stuff Hope your Platelets have settled down now, and you are feeling ok. If you find any more interesting Platelet/blood related sites, please let us know. Mark J.

I'd like to take them regularly to see if it make any differences to the platelet count. But the fat content of chocolate frightens me!!!

Not so sweet perhaps but dont know about the fat content. Maybe you should ask your pharmacist.
